Necronomicon, the Book of the Dead, sends an S-Mart housewares greeter back in time so that he may kick ass and chew bubblegum and -- bubblegum not being available at the time -- he is all out of gum. The dead have risen and are voting with their swords to make an evil (presumably Republican) clone of his Leader of the Feudal World.

Based on the quotations on the IMDB page, I am guessing that the Director's Cut ends on a less upbeat note than the cinema version. That's probably a good thing, but some decent lines have been cut as a result.

Atypically for the genre, this movie is very pro-science and pro-progress. Skeletons are blasted apart with the help of Chemistry 101 and Steam Engines for Dummies. Guns and chainsaws are nobler than swords. Sweet.

Ugliness is equated with nefariousness. The general ethos is macho and not particularly progressive.

Army of Darkness is certainly worthy of a download. I recommend it.
