The old dragonweyrs have declined. Where there were once six bastions of combined might of dragonkind and humanity, only one remains. It watches over an ungrateful planet of squabbling feudal lords and miserable peasants.

In the conquered Ruathan domain, the last survivor of the old nobles does her best to throw monkey wrenches into cogwheels. Soon, the Red Star will approach perigee and all the miserabled serfs will be tentacle raped by flaming lava. Muwahahahaha.

Okay, fine, the dragonriders are searching for a new queen rider. Guess who that's going to be.

The setting is original, though not one I particularly want to read about in escapist literature. Technology is disgustingly medieval, there is a sharp division of labour between the sexes, and life is lousy.

Unfortunately, the writing is very poor. The characters are phlegmatic and utterly lacking in curiosity. Brains are in short supply. Their actions are implausible, and yet plot twists can be seen coming ten chapters away.

There are better books out there in terms of writing and world-building, though perhaps not dragon lore. So, if you want to read a Harlequin romance with dragons, read Dragonflight.
