This book felt like a product of a patriarchy to me. Dunno why. Maybe I am just in an odd state of mind.
It does seem that Holt defaults to male characters unless the plot actively asks for a female. I think only four of the central sixteen characters were female -- the sex kitten, the love interest, the maid, and the machiavellian demon librarian. Was there any particular reason for the self-aware computer instantly becoming male? Even if we get silly, the only male thing on a typical computer is the electricity inflow -- all the other ports are female.^-^
Anyways, God and Jesus go on vacation and leave Kevin Christ in charge. Soon, painting walk the earth, lemmings are elected in high office, machines inherit the universe, and a Duke of Hell saves teh day. You know the old chestnut.
The plot feels like a series of disjointed yet entertaining skits. It's a fun read but not something the first human ambassador to dolphinkind would feel inclined to discuss at lenght during high-level talks about the exhibition of dolphin art at the Royal Ontario Museum.
